Science

I just love Science. All Science. The human mind's capacity for understanding the universe based solely on the mortally observable is one of the things that comforts me when I am feeling fucked up. Lots of people turn to religion, and I try not to hold it against them, but for me, inspiration comes in the form of the human beings who figure shit out. And also from the ones who do things with that knowledge.

So I'm getting on the net today, and since I have a my.yahoo homepage little yahoo headlines are the 1st thing I see. Usually they don't catch my eye, but today one did. It said "Architect claims to solve pyramid secret" so I clicked the link. It required a plug-in D/L, but I was curious enough to follow through. I'm glad I did. If you click that link, you will see something pretty frickin' amazing. No miracles, no divine intervention, just serious use of the human intellect, both in the scientist who puts forth his theory and in the Egyptians who did the incredible things they did.

Anyway, I am currently reading a book by Bill Bryson called A Short History of Nearly Everything which is all about scientific discovery, etc. If you like Carl Sagan, and even if you don't, you should read this book. Bryson isn't a scientist like Segan, but he's a brilliant and entertaining writer. Erin has posted about him on her blog before, so I'll let him go for now. Just wanted to point out that he's a guy like me; in awe of the human capacity for using reason and observation to keep figuring out what was once thought impossible.

I could literally go on for pages and pages about things Scientific that make me glad I'm alive, but I won't. I'll just leave you with "Flickr." I hadn't heard of Flickr before, but while I was searching around for Science Club ideas, I came across this link. I'm addicted to it; check it out and let me know what you think!

The human intellect, the ability to figure shit out... is a miracle.

I do this bizarre science/religion combination thing. I am usually moved on a very deep spiritual level when faced scientific marvels. I don't have time right this moment to visit the site... I will have to come back. I thought I was just popping in for a quick browse. Guess not.

Anyway. Back to the bizarre science/religion combination thing... I thought I wanted to be a Scientologist. Oops. They have nothing to do with science. That was a disappointing and creepy experience. Then I thought about Christian Scienists... they don't go to church... they don't have a sanctuary... they have a "Reading Room." I mean, how cool is that, right? Yeah. Not so much really, I discovered. They're kind of creepy too it turns out. So I settled for Episcopal.

I am looking forward to coming back to this post.

Well sadly, B nor I could get the plug-in to work. I didn't get to see this. Oh well...

Once you get the plugin, it takes about 5 minutes to boot up; it seems like your system is frozen, but it's not. Are you sure you waited long enough? It's worth the wait! If you can't get it to work, let me know. I believe they have a complete version available to download.
